Create a great listing

Here are 5 ways to set yourself up for success.

  • Taking high quality photos

    No expensive camera? Use your smartphone. Our app has tools that help you clean up your image and add a white background. When shooting, remember to choose a well-lit place, take photos from various angles, and capture blemishes to help the buyer avoid surprises.

  • Writing a great title

    Titles help buyers find your listing. Make it stand out by using keywords buyers use when searching. Be sure to avoid using all caps and focus on item specifics like brand, model, size and colour.

  • Choosing a buying format

    The choice between Buy it now and Auction can depend on what you're selling and how much of a hurry you're in. If you'd prefer to let someone buy your item right away at your asking price, try Buy it now. Likewise, if you’re selling a collectible or want buyers to compete to decide what your item is worth, you might prefer Auction.

  • Setting the right price

    Think like a buyer! Search around to see how other sellers are pricing their items. You can also let your buyers know you’re willing to negotiate by adding Best Offer to your listing.

  • Providing a great service

    Use more than one postage service for your item to provide buyers with a choice. Once your item sells, use eBay postage labels and have your tracking ID automatically uploaded for buyers.

How much does it cost to sell on eBay?

When you list items on eBay you are charged insertion fees based on the item's starting price and format, cost for optional upgrades you choose, and a final value fee when your item sells. Learn more about fees

What’s the best way to send my item?

Simply select a service of your choice and set a cost in our listing tool. By offering more than one delivery option, you'll be able to attract different types of buyers. Once the item has sold, you can purchase a label from eBay, which is pre-filled with your buyer’s address. You'll also save time by not having to queue. Pack your item, apply the label, and simply take it to the nearest drop-off location.

Can I sell locally on eBay?

You can! When creating your listing, you can offer 'local collection' by selecting it as a delivery option in the postage section of our listing tool.

How will the buyer pay for my item?

eBay manages payments so that you can sell and get paid in one place and buyers have more ways to pay. A payment method will be added when you list your item. To help provide a safe experience, we only allow payment methods that offer strong protection for buyers and sellers.

How should I choose my listing price?

How you price your item can depend on how you prefer to sell it, whether as an Auction or as a Buy it now listing. Choosing a lower starting price for auctions can help create more interest. If you use Best Offer, buyers will make you offers that you can accept or decline.

How does eBay protect sellers?
